Most of our events are advertised informally through emails, postings on the 5th floor of the General Services Building, and postings on our Department Facebook page (look us up at "Resource Economics and Environmental Sociology, University of Alberta")

We also have a few larger events each year, such as a Heritage Night and an annual Chili Cook-off fundraiser. You can check out 'Archived Events' for information on older events.

2014 Introduction Barbeque!

This year our first large social event of the year was a meet-and-greet barbeque at Hawrelak Park, near the University, on September 10, 2014. Students, professors, and family members were invited to come and meet each other. Burgers were cooked and additional dinner items were provided by REESSA. We had a great turnout despite the unseasonably brisk weather for September. Events of the evening included the following:

  • Dinner!
  • Each professor was invited to briefly discuss his or her research interests.
  • New students to the program were also invited to briefly introduce themselves.
  • Awards for the academic achievements of students in the 2013/2014 academic year were presented by the Department Chair, Peter Boxall.

The night wrapped up with games of frisbee, kickball, and general mingling.
